Throughout its rich history, greater Falls Church and the surrounding region has been known for its economically diverse population and balanced economy. However, in recent years, rising land and housing prices have negatively affected the regions quality of life.
Among the signs of strain:
- Local businesses and public services find it hard to keep valued employees who can’t afford to live in this area and must spend long hours in daily commutes
- Older residents are often hard-pressed to maintain long-standing family homes on their retirement incomes, yet cannot afford to downsize within their own community
- Young people who are beginning careers and want to live in the community where they grew up find it unaffordable
Northern Virginia residents are becoming increasingly concerned that the traditionally diverse character of the region is at risk; the character of the region is fast becoming exclusive. The availability of affordable housing becomes a significant priority if our area is to retain its historically inclusive qualities. These are goals that FCHC works hard to accomplish.
